Jacob Mbele

Jacob Mbele is the Director General of the Department of Mineral Resources and Energy, South Africa. Prior to this appointment, he was the Deputy Director for Energy Programmes and Projects. He was appointed to this position in July 2022. He has 20 years’ experience in the energy sector’s policy, regulation and enforcement and has held various senior positions in both the public and private sector. His areas of competence include planning for energy and power systems as well as policy development. Jacob holds a Master’s in Business Administration, a Post Graduate Diploma in Engineering (industrial) and Bachelor of Science in Engineering (Electrical). He is the Co-Chair of the Economic Sectors Employment and Infrastructure Development.
