Shahil Juggernath

Shahil is a dedicated professional in the renewable energy sector, committed to pioneering clean and innovative energy solutions. With 15 years of experience, he has passionately pursued sustainable and smart environmental solutions that make a tangible difference in the world. Currently, Shahil is a New Business Developer at ENGIE, focusing on green hydrogen, battery and energy storage, desalination and other dispatchable generation projects within South Africa’s Flexible Generation and Retail Unit since October 2022. His keen interest in ESG, strategy, sustainable finance, the just energy transition and community empowerment underpins his work. Shahil’s journey in the energy sector began at Eskom in January 2008, where he worked as a Control & Instrumentation Engineer on mega-scale coal-fired power stations and utility-scale renewable energy projects. During his tenure, he led technical consulting, integrated engineering solutions and managed product evaluations. At Eskom’s Sere Wind Energy Facility, Shahil excelled as a Lead Discipline Engineer, responsible for all control and instrumentation, SCADA and IT/OT interfaces. He also served as an Area Lead Engineer at Medupi Power Station, managing the balance of plant systems and pioneering the deployment of AI-based systems on a coal-fired power station. From October 2014 to December 2019, Shahil advanced his career at the Enel Group as a Project Engineer. He managed the technical execution of wind, solar and hybrid projects in Johannesburg and Bangalore, India. His achievements include managing Gibson Bay and Nojoli wind farms and contributing to the win of 285MW in the SECI Reverse Auction in India. Shahil then joined EDF Renewables (South Africa) in January 2020 as a Senior Project Engineer. He led the technical aspects during the development and bidding phases of various renewable energy projects, successfully winning over 600MW in installed capacity across wind, solar and storage technologies. Shahil’s career highlights his specialisation in project presentation and winning bids and auctions. He has managed technical teams throughout the entire life cycle of renewable energy facilities, delivering projects on time and within budget, with a paramount focus on safety. His experience spans Africa and Asia, showcasing his adaptability and global expertise in renewable energy solutions.
