Designation: CEO, Scalar International

Hubert possesses a robust track record in infrastructure development investments, accumulated over a decade of dedicated experience. His professional journey includes senior management positions within both investment banking and funds management, with a specific focus on infrastructure. In 2021, leveraging his extensive expertise, Hubert established Scalar International with the primary objective of executing the most extensive municipal energy infrastructure retrofit in the United States. The remarkable success of this initiative has fostered a significant partnership with the Department of Energy in Washington, DC, within the framework of the Better Buildings programme. Furthermore, this accomplishment paved the way for the creation of the Africa Decarbonisation Fund, a collaborative venture with Mergence Investment Managers. The conceptual foundation of this fund is rooted in the commitment to enhance the involvement of women and youth-led Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) in the supply chains that are pivotal to the climate transition within the Southern African Development Community (SADC) region, with the aim to reduce 1 GT of carbon emissions by 2030, achieve energy efficiency in 30,000 buildings by crowding in investment of at least $100 million and create 15,000 full-time jobs. Notably, the Africa Decarbonisation Fund represents the latest addition to the 2024 Infrastructure Climate Finance Accelerator (ICFA) cohort, as one of 5 selected out of 48 applicants worldwide. In addition to his professional endeavours, Hubert is also a distinguished fellow of the Climate School at Columbia University in New York.
